Seven players who participated in rookie minicamp this past weekend on a tryout basis were added to the roster today. One of them was Akron DT Nate Robinson, who told reporters before minicamp he had signed with the team. That wasn't the case before, but it is now.
The others who were signed were:

The Giants announced the signing of Mississippi State TE Eric Butler and Army P Owen Tolson. The press release also said the team will have 12 signed free agents for rookie camp, which starts tomorrow.
It sounds like they're done announcing signings, which means something might have happened to take Akron DT Nate Robinson out of the running for a contract. The Irvington native said he had agreed to a deal with the Giants, but sometimes these things die before they're finalized. I'll try to get to the bottom of this.
5:54 p.m. UPDATE Riddle solved: Robinson will be at camp on a tryout basis. He was not officially signed. Whew, now we can all sleep easily.

The Giants, who stocked up on pass rushers and cornerbacks a year ago, are now collecting quarterbacks.
With Super Bowl XLII MVP Eli Manning firmly entrenched as the team's starter, the competition behind Manning on the depth chart just got a new name. Valdosta State's Willie Copeland will be in town this weekend for the Giants' rookie mini-camp -- on a tryout basis.

Wow, this turned out to be a busy May Tuesday out of nowhere. The team has announced the signing of four more undrafted free agents:
*Alabama WR D.J. Hall
*Alabama DE Wallace Gilberry
*Tennessee DE Antonio Reynolds
*Michigan State S Nehemiah Warrick
That leaves Army P/K Owen Tolson, Akron DT Nate Robinson and Washburn DT Eric Butler as players who have reportedly signed but haven't been officially announced.

Lorenzen (genuinely) scared by Woodson
by Mike Garafolo

Here I am praising Sinorice Moss' honesty, but the truth award has to go to backup QB Jared Lorenzen, who had this reaction when he saw the team drafted Andre' Woodson in the sixth round:
"Uh-oh."
Lorenzen knows the numbers: Five QBs on the roster now minus one before training camp minus another after camp plus a franchise QB and a former No. 1 pick who got a pretty good deal equals a possible pink slip.

Say what you will about Sinorice Moss. And I know you have. I've heard you.
But never say that he's not a team player, a humble human being or selfless. The fact is he is all of those things.
When asked today about the Giants' drafting Mario Manningham in the third round, Moss went right past sulking, feeling bad for himself, ripping his new teammate or anything else that might reflect a selfish attitude. Instead, he genuinely (and I mean that) expressed excitement about adding another potential weapon to the team's receiving corps - even if that weapon might soon knock him off the roster.
"It's good for us to have a guy like that - a great talent, good hands," Moss said. "I didn't expect him to be there that late, but it was a big plus for us to have another young guy coming in. You talk about looking toward the future with this organization, I think that's a big plus for us."

Shabazz grad Amir Pinnix and Keyport's Kenny Cattouse will both have chances to prove themselves to an NFL team later this week.
Pinnix, who rushed for over 2,000 yards in his four years at the University of Minnesota, will work out at the Vikings mini-camp, which starts Friday. Cattouse, who played at Troy after graduating from Keyport as New Jersey's all-time leading rusher, will head up to New England's mini-camp. Neither has signed with an NFL team, but they'll put in their bid at the mini-camps, where they'll join each team's draft picks and undrafted free agent signings.
"This is what I've been wanting, since I could remember," Cattouse said. "All I need to do is prove myself."
