Rice, Flacco stand out in Ravens loss

    by The Star-Ledger Sports Desk
    Sunday August 17, 2008, 10:11 AM

Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams chases down Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice during the first half of their preseason game in Baltimore Saturday.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco stands in the pocket as he looks for a receiver against the Minnesota Vikings during the second half of their preseason game in Baltimore Saturday.
It wasn't a terrific overall team performance for the Baltimore Ravens in Saturday night's 23-15 preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings, but former Rutgers standout Ray Rice and Audubon native Joe Flacco provided some bright spots, as the Baltimore Sun reports.

    On Rice, The Sun reports:

The only bright spot for the Ravens' offense was Rice, who ran for 77 yards and a touchdown.

With Willis McGahee out after having arthroscopic knee surgery, Rice took advantage of the start and some powerful blocking by his line. Bouncing to the outside time after time, the second-round pick out of Rutgers hit gaping holes against last season's top-ranked run defense in the NFL.
