The children at the Breitman Family Chabad Hebrew School were preparing for Rosh Hashanah, as they learn important holiday messages and the practices that reflect those messages. Here, Anna Rabinovich of Bedmister proudly displays her classmates' spiral Challot -- the traditional shape for the Challah bread used on Rosh Hashana to signify that at the beginning of the cycle of each New Year, people resolve to be better than the year before, just as the spiral continuously rises upward. For more information about the Breitman Family Chabad Hebrew School, contact Chassi at (908) 604-8844, Ext. 225, or chassi@chabadcentral.org.

Junior Rangers follow in footsteps of Somerset County Park Commission rangers

    by Staff Report/Somerset Reporter
    Monday October 06, 2008, 4:59 PM

The Somerset County Park Commission's "Junior Ranger" program helps young people in Somerset County learn how to become responsible adults.
The Somerset County Park Commission directs it efforts toward providing active and passive recreational opportunities to people of all ages. With that in mind, Commission staff understands that the positive ideals that we are able to instill in our children are ideals that will reap benefits for a lifetime.

One of the many ways that the commission advances this agenda is through the "Junior Ranger" programs.

Supported by the free workbook for kids entitled "Exploring Somerset County Parks," children who participate in the Junior Rangers are described as "enthusiastic conservationists who care about our environment; they appreciate nature and respect it. By picking up litter, not trampling on flowers, nor removing small animals, Junior Rangers help our parks to be safe for all inhabitants."
