• Davidson starts strongly
TARHEEL GOLFMatt Davidson of West Windsor got off to a good start yesterday in the Tarheel Tour's Walnut Creek Classic. He fired an opening-round 68 at the Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro, N.C., to put himself in good shape to make the cut after today's second round.

Oct. 6 --An Open Trap Shoot will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Falls Township Rifle & Pistol Association.

• Stocking stuffers on tap for regional area waters
This year's fall trout stocking will begin Tuesday. There will be no major changes in the waters being stocked and the numbers of fish being stocked in them. The state will stock approximately 20,000 two-year old brook, brown and rainbow trout, averaging 14 to 16 inches. The state's top streams will be stocked during the first week of stocking, while 16 top ponds and lakes will be stocked in the second phase of the stocking. In addition to the 2-year-old fish, approximately 1,000 broodstock trout, 3-year-old rainbow trout averaging 17 to 18 inches, will also be stocked.
