    What we're about

    by George!

Blogger Ron Brandt has raised a very good question: What's the purpose of MorristownGreen.com?

In a nutshell, we're aiming for an online version of the venerable Morristown Green: Where people from Morristown, Morris Township and Morris Plains can come together and talk about anything and everything that matters to them.

A sign over the former Epstein's site proclaims: "The coolest place to live in the hottest town around."

We feel that way about Greater Morristown. The best features of urban, suburban and rural living are all here, within a few square miles. There is diversity, and a vibrancy, that few places can match. People care -- passionately -- about their children, their neighbors, and those less fortunate than themselves.

Folks around here love the arts. They also are custodians of a proud history. Morristown was as critical to American independence as Lexington and Concord.

Today, Morristown is at the crossroads of another revolution. Challenging issues that will shape America's future -- immigration, development, ecology -- are in play here.

There is plenty to talk about!

As Ron observes, we will try to contribute to the conversation with local stories from our partner, The Star-Ledger. We'll cite The Daily Record and other sources, too, to help you keep up with breaking news that affects you.

It's no secret these are tough times for newspapers. Thomas Jefferson acknowledged their vital role in democracy. To carry on, the industry must find new and better ways to interact with readers. That's where the Internet, and MorristownGreen.com, come in.

Ron notes how bloggers are promoting agendas here. That's blogging! Merchants are an important voice in this community.

They are not the only voice, however. Going forward, you will hear from Greater Morristown's thriving professional community, and from its religious groups and charities. Elected officials and watchful constituents, movers and shakers, villains and unsung heroes -- the soapbox is yours.

We'll have some fun. We'll make some mistakes. Tell us what you you like, and what you don't. Share your tips, your pix, your videos.

Better yet, follow Ron's lead and blog for MorristownGreen.com.

    All are welcome here.
