    Firefighters battle large junkyard blaze

Trenton firefighters, lower left, pour water onto a smoky junkyard fire on Enterprise Avenue in Trenton.
TRENTON -- A raging fire at a junkyard on Enterprise Avenue near Mulberry Street is sending plumes of thick black smoke over the city and reportedly has closed Route 1.

Several city fire units are battling the blaze, which broke out about 1 p.m.

Firefighters say they had difficulty getting water to the fire because the closest hydrants are not in operation because to road work.

The fire, which has attracted a crowd of onlookers, appears to be burning in one of the junk piles at the business. It was not immediately clear which business is affected because there are several in the industrial area.

    No injuries have been reported.
