by
Jersey Journal
Monday August 25, 2008, 4:33 PM
Queens County Farm Museum
There is nature in New York! Visit the largest remaining tract of undisturbed farmland and the only working historical farm in New York City -- the Queens County Farm Museum. Located in the Floral Parks section, the farm encompasses a 47-acre parcel that is the longest continuously farmed site in New York State with historic farm buildings, a greenhouse complex, livestock, planting fields and much more. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information, call 718-347-3276 or visit www.queensfarm.org.
Day 85: Edgar Allan Poe Cottage
by
Jersey Journal
Monday August 25, 2008, 4:31 PM
Edgar Allan Poe Cottage
Visit the place where the great American poet and writer Edgar Allan Poe wrote some of his most famous literary works. Immerse yourself in the humble abode where he lived his last years. From his 19th-century stove to his creaky rocking chair, everything in the Bronx five-room cottage was left exactly the way it was before he died. Poe's wife, Virginia, died from tuberculosis in this very cottage in 1849 -- so you can imagine the history behind these walls. For more information, visit www.historichousetrust.org.
Day 84: Well Sweep Herb Farm
by
Jersey Journal
Monday August 25, 2008, 4:26 PM

The shop is filled with a wonderful assortment of dried flowers, wreaths, statuary, hard-to-find potpourri supplies and unusual gifts for all ages. Classes are available for hands-on learning. Reservations are required for all classes. For more information, visit www.wellsweep.com.
Day 83: Asbury Lanes
by
Jersey Journal
Monday August 25, 2008, 4:22 PM
Asbury Lanes
Calling Asbury Lanes a bowling alley would be misleading. In addition to those super-stylish shoes and snack food galore, these lanes also feature live bands, dance parties and movies throughout the summer. Must be 18 to enter. For hours and pricing, go to www.asburylanes.com.
Day 82: Franklin Mineral Museum
by Jersey Journal
Monday August 25, 2008, 3:24 PM

Day 81: The Devil's Tree
by Jersey Journal
Monday August 25, 2008, 3:21 PM
The Devil's Tree
Want a scare in the middle of the summer? Take a nighttime drive and check out the Devil's Tree in Bernard's Township. It is said that during colonial times, unruly slaves were hanged from the branch that runs almost parallel to the ground and local history generally imparts this malicious character to the tree. Make sure to keep your wits about you. For more information visit www.weirdnj.com.
Day 80: Trapeze School New York
by Jersey Journal
Monday August 25, 2008, 3:04 PM
Trapeze School New York
Indulge in the breathtaking view of Hudson River Park and the Statue of Liberty as you fly like an eagle at the Trapeze School New York -- well, not really flying like a bird, but flying like a trapeze artist. Whether you are athletic or not, the teachers at the Trapeze School will ensure you get plenty out of the experience. Children and adults will be able to register for classes. There is a 10-student limit per each class. For more information, visit www.newyork.trapezeschool.com
