    by The Chronicle
    Tuesday December 02, 2008, 7:15 AM

Pictured above is Mrs. Compton's Third Grade at Hillside Avenue School. They are Going Green, by declaring every Thursday "No Garbage Snack/Lunch Days" and using all reusable materials for their snack and lunch to significantly reduce the amount of garbage they produce.

CRANFORD--Hillside Avenue School students in Mrs. Compton's third grade class are going green!

They are working very hard to learn the many changes they can make in their lives to help save our planet. Each morning they make a promise to the earth through a song where they pledge to be "defenders of the planet."

They learned this song from the kidsforsavingearth.org website. In addition to their lengthy discussions and daily pledge they have declared every Thursday "No Garbage Snack/Lunch Day."

This means they are to use all reusable materials for their snack and lunch to significantly reduce the amount of garbage they produce.

They have learned a lot of different ways to prepare their snacks and lunches that are earth friendly. Most recently they have decided to wear green every Thursday as well.

    by By Gabrielle Florek
    Sunday November 30, 2008, 8:52 AM

KENILWORTH--Contrary to what the name might suggest, David Brearley High school's fall drama Not Fit to Print is a production worth noticing.

The comedy by William Gleason tells the story of Ida Perry, an impassioned and naïve journalism major who inadvertently ends up working for a sleazy tabloid newspaper, the Metro Inquirer.

This year's directors are Ms. VanSteenacker and Ms. Warchol. VanSteenacker is the director of the middle School production, and this year took over the high school drama as well. She says that Not Fit to Print appealed to her as a choice for this year's drama "because of the good characters and the large cast."

Not Fit to Print will be performed on December 5 and 6, at 8 p.m. in the David Brearley auditorium. General admission is $7. Pictured above are cast members Dino Curia, Charlie Meade, Matt Bonnell and Dan Cunningham (inside table) deep in thought, during rehearsal.
