Has anyone noticed how poorly the new lights on Broadway's Central Business District illuminate the street?

I agree! For people to shop in our community, we not only need better stores, but the feeling of security and safety!

I am writing this as a concerned parent of a teenager who currently attends Bayonne High School. Recently there was an attack upon a young person by a group at 25th Street and Broadway and this incident appears just to be the "tip of the iceberg" in regards to violence amongst and committed by young people not just in our community but in society as a whole. In my opinion the issues of violence, drugs, the possession of different types of weapons by our young population today is a symptom of many areas of problems that is occurring with your youth.

It is to be noted that there are many causes to these problems; use of illegal drugs, alcohol consumption, the inability of families due to the economic conditions today of interacting as a unit on a daily basis and more importantly the unfortunate general lack of respect by many, not all, of our young persons toward their parents, school and the community as a whole. The high school is monitored by the vice principals, teachers and there is a presence of the Bayonne Police Department. It appears that after the children leave the immediate area of the school there are acts of violence committed in the streets of our town. Perhaps a concentration of police patrols in and about the streets in the vicinity of the high school would assist. But equally if not more important there needs to be a cooperative concentrated effort with the parents, schools, religious entities to battle this disease of violence. Children need to be encouraged to join school and after school sports, music and other activities to occupy their time in a constructive manner.

Let us all work together as a team effort to turn acts of violence into acts of kindness among our youth

I am a father of three let me start by telling everyone my wife and i moved here 8 or so years ago to bayonne. Then it was safe ,peaceful ,and the crime wasn't as bad as it is now.I believe we have more then enough cops in bayonne to have them in schools and around the schools when they are let out. Then there is the issue of all the thefts,if the cops would do there jobs and patrol instead of getting together and talking while they are on the cities time,we also live by some of so called (bayonnes finest)and when they are supposed to be working there patrol car is infront of there house not for 5 or 10 minutes, its more like half an hour or so.Then theres also the insudent i saw this summer at the public pool, this one young boy/man was told to leave the pool,he was leaving of course with the officer following him with the kids id in his hand. When they reacted the entrance to the pool the young man asked for his id and the officer then throw his id into the middle of 16th street and there where car coming down the block. The one question is how do the police want the kids to resect them is thing like what i saw happen?

What i meant to say at the end is(THEY SHOULD SHOW RESPECT TO RECIEVE RESPECT).When i was young thats what was taught to me (show it and you'll recieve it)

    Hi...

I am just wondering about the commuting options from Bayonee to Midtown manhattan.

    Are the only 2 options:

    1) LightRail to PATH
    2) Red & Tan bus on Kennedy Blvd

    are there any commuter vans?

both options available seem pretty long -- at least 1 hour if not more.

    thanks for any insight

I would like to first ask all the mayoral people a question?
I lived in bayonne all my life and never has bayonne been soooo badddd with gangs fights before... so my question is this if any of you become the mayor of bayonne what are you going to do about all this gang violence that is going on in bayonne...we need the police to go back and walk the streets again cause on 25th street and other areas of bayonne the teen violence is sooo badd now... what are you going to do about all this... I don't care about the old MOT area... my concern is for the people in bayonne to be able to walk the streets again and not be afraid and that we know that the gangs are out of here... there are gangs members on 25 &26 street and ave e that come to 25th street area on broadway and start with people all the time soo police and mayor what needs to be done here wait until someone gets mudered first.. PUT POLICE BACK ON WALKING THE STREETS AGAIN

The problem is that the bayonne police dept are more concerned with giving out traffic tickets and
look the other way or hide when there are real problems in the city...this wil only get worse if
Smith becomes mayor because he's the one who is
running this dept. of inept bullies....

After reading some of the comments, I find myself relieved that I am not the only one concerned about how unsafe our schools and our streets are because of the rise in gang activity & violence. Bayonne is not what it used to be. The city, police department and the schools do nothing to solve the violence/Crime problems we are facing today. They instead cover up the problems or act as if nothing is wrong just to make Bayonne look like it’s a great neighborhood which is not. My son is a student at BHS and has told me horrifying stories of students sneaking in box cutters, students being assaulted in the bathroom by gang members, students smoking marijuana and the list goes on. I was horrified to find out that BHS does not use the metal detectors all the time like they should!!! I guess they forgot about the fatal stabbing of Aubrey Taylor who was stabbed in the heart in 1997 at BHS. If I want to see my son survive and graduate HS my only option is to pull my son out of BHS because of all the things that are going on. He was threatened by gang members more than once. Some of the kids he knows that are members of gangs were trying to recruit him. Finally what helped me in my decision were the 20 gang members that waited outside for him one day after school. I thought school was supposed to be a safe place to send your children. The worst thing is that these fights are spreading out into the streets and putting other peoples lives in danger. I agree that we as parents need to organize against gangs/violence in our community by involving the schools, police and the churches. We need to not only ask the mayor but ask ourselves what we can do to make a difference so that Bayonne can become once again a great neighborhood to raise a family.
